Bhikha & Popat – Sociedade de Advogados, Limitada held, between 25 March and 8 April, a training programme on “Fraud in Insurance Activities”, delivered by lawyers Nazir Bhikha and Umeid Calú at the premises of Fidelidade Moçambique – Companhia de Seguros.
The training focused on critical topics for the insurance sector, including the legal framework governing insurance claims, the fundamental principles underlying insurance contracts, as well as the central role of loss assessment and expert appraisal in evaluating damages and supporting insurers’ decision-making processes. Various types of fraud, key indicators of suspicion (red flags), and practical cases across different insurance lines were analysed, providing a concrete approach aligned with the operational realities of insurance companies.
In a context where fraud is becoming increasingly sophisticated and has a significant financial impact, affecting not only the sustainability of insurers but also the balance of the system itself, which is based on the principle of mutuality, strengthening fraud prevention, detection, and investigation mechanisms is essential. Initiatives such as this contribute to enhancing the technical capabilities of teams and promoting more rigorous and efficient practices in claims management.
Bhikha & Popat – Sociedade de Advogados, Limitada thus reaffirms its commitment to supporting the insurance sector through specialised training, legal advisory services, and the development of practical solutions tailored to the current challenges of the market.
